We were honored to receive this beautiful letter from Adelina Nicholls, Executive Director of GLAHR (Georgia Latino Alliance for Human Rights) this December, as an update and thank you after Ruckus training and action support for GLAHR staff, members and the Atlanta community fighting HB87 earlier this year.

Sharon, Csar, Martin & Isaac, and RUCKUS!
Our organizational work for the defense of human rights here in Georgia has been an uphill fight for over 10 years. On this voyage, countless anecdotes and life stories have accompanied us in the struggle for human rights of the immigrant community. And with that, hundreds of community gatherings, conferences, workshops, rallies, and festivals as well as impressive deployments of mass participation of children, youth, parents have taken over spaces of this southern state that threaten to crush the immigrant community.
For thousands of people it is unthinkable that laws like SB1070, HB87, HB56, among others, emerged due to their ridiculous and retrograde content. Among the thousands of arrests made by local police, immigration agents; in an open anti-immigrant environment, a workers hunt has been unleashed in different parts of the state, while elected officials (a republican majority and openly racist) give more space to state laws that criminalize and keep our workers jailed without any legal rights. They become another number within the jail industry (CCA) that, in complicity with ICE, delights with its profits; the outcome is pain and separation of thousands of families.
A sense of deep injustice, a growing anger, a paralyzing fear, a constant unease are some of the feelings that accompany our immigrants daily; without doubt, the scenario looks like dark clouds to the endless time that passes by.
From an almost instinctive force, the rising hope pushes and pushes arduously in the intricacies that distill an anxiety for expression, for protest and for struggle with an inalienable demand…Justice and Dignity for all!
From stage to stage 2011 brought the arrival of dozens of activists that multiplied and took over the moment, the neighborhoods, the businesses, social networks and local and national media like an overflowed river of diversity and brotherhood with a message of unity and resistance against HB87, to give space to a new environment of organizational work full of a sense of community that is fulfilling, pleasant and enriching.
From this diversity without doubt the gala of forms, colors, art and culture provided the movement with a new and renewed expression of struggle that generated an explosion of creativity, of ideas, and shapes in a community anxious to find itself, whose exuberance is recreated and regenerated in every instant of our struggles.
For our sisters and brothers from Ruckus our hugs from the distance and we want to let you know that the teachings have been instructive and vital, a legacy with an eternal presence in this art showcase and taught by all these artists, living in our spirits of struggle.
And after the passing of the months nothing is the same, everything has changed for those who decided to incorporate the struggle as part of their daily life.
Everything has changed, not a single event exists at GLAHR where art is not present, and it beautifies our struggle like a creative call.
At this good time, we welcome this Art that transforms, regenerates, that transcends and fires up, that bursts and revolutionizes.
At this good time we welcome this art that reinforces hope, revolutionizes the spirits and reactivates a struggle within all of us.

El trabajo organizativo en pro de la defensa de los derechos humanos aquí en el es
tado de Georgia ha sido una lucha cuesta arriba por más de 10 años, en ese caminar un sin número de anécdotas e historias de vida han acompañado esta lucha en defensa de los derechos humanos de la comunidad inmigrante. Y con ello, cientos de reuniones comunitarias, conferencias, talleres, rallies, y festivales, así como despliegues impresionantes de participación masiva de niñ@s, jóvenes, padres y madres de familia han invadido los espacios de este estado sureño que amenaza con aplastar a la comunidad inmigrante.
Inimaginable quizá para muchos que leyes como la SB1070, HB87, HB56 entre otras surgieran, por lo ridículo y el retrógrado contenido. En medio de miles de detenciones por parte de las policías locales, agentes de inmigración que envueltos en un clima abiertamente anti-inmigrante se ha desatado la cacería de trabajadores en cualquier parte del Estado, mientras los trabajos legislativos de una mayoría republicana y abiertamente racista dan cabida a más leyes estatales que criminalizan y mantienen a nuestros trabajadores encarcelados quienes despojados de cualquier derecho legal, y en complicidad con ICE pasan a ser un ‘número” más en la industria carcelaria (CCA) que se regodea con sus ganancias resultado del dolor y separación de miles de las familias.
Un sentido de profunda injusticia, una rabia que crece, un miedo que paraliza, un desasosiego perene son algunos de los sentimientos que acompañan a nuestros inmigrantes en su cotidianidad, sin menoscabo, los escenarios aparecen como nubes grises al paso eterno del tiempo que transcurre.
De una fuerza casi instintiva la esperanza creciente empuja y empuja ardua en los recovecos que destilan la ansiedad de expresión, de protesta y de lucha con una demanda inalienable… Justicia y Dignidad para todos.!
De escenario en escenario, 2011 con el arribo de docenas de activistas que multiplicados se adueñaron del momento, de los barrios, los comercios, redes sociales, medios de comunicación locales y nacionales, cual río desbordado de la diversidad y hermandad, con vertientes
arrasadoras de solidaridad y mensaje de unidad y resistencia en contra de la HB87, cuyos caudales confluyeron para dar paso a un nuevo ambiente del trabajo organizativo lleno de ese sentido de ‘comunitario’ que llena, place y enriquece.
De esta diversidad, sin duda, la gala de formas, colores, arte y cultura dieron al movimiento una nueva y renovadora expresión de lucha, que generó una explosión de creatividad, de ideas, de formas, en una comunidad ansiosa de reencontrarse a si misma, cuya propia dinamicidad se recrea y regenera en cada uno de nuestros instantes de lucha.
Sea pues para nuestros herman@s de Ruckus nuestro abrazo en las distancias, y sepan que las enseñazas han sido aleccionadoras y trascendentales, un legado en esta eterna presencia con ese arte traído, mostrado y enseñado por todos esos ‘artistas’ y alojado en nuestros espíritus de lucha.
Y así al paso de los meses Nada es lo mismo, Todo ha cambiado para aquellos que decidieron emprender la lucha como parte de su cotidianidad.
Todo ha cambiado, no existe en GLAHR una sola actividad donde este nuevo arte este ausente y embellezca nuestra lucha como un eco creativo.
En hora buena, abre puertas a este Arte que transforma y regenera, que trasciende e incendia, que revienta y revoluciona!
En hora buena, bienvenido ese Arte que refuerza las esperanza, revoluciona los espíritus y reactiva la lucha en todos nosotros.
