The Ruckus Society is a multi-racial network dedicated to providing the tools, preparation, and support to build direct action capacity for social change movements. We work with communities of color and working class communities on the front lines organizing for equity, justice, direct democracy and ecological resiliency. We define “frontline communities” as directly affected grassroots communities organized for action to confront injustice.
Overview of Position & Primary Areas of Work:
The Program Coordinator is a full-time position responsible for helping carry out Ruckus’s mission in the world, through Ruckus’s full spectrum of programmatic methods, which include:
Ongoing Projects & Partnerships
Training Network Coordination
Community-Requested Trainings & Action Support
Program Related Communications
The Program Coordinator will work closely with other staff to help design, implement and execute all programming, together, in addition to helping raise the organization’s profile through documentation and communications, public representation, outreach, and helping grow and sustain the organization overall.

The Program Coordinator will be expected to bring fresh energy, ideas, and a desire to help move the work to the next level, while staying true to Ruckus’s vision and goals, Action Framework, and overall ways of operating that we have cultivated through years of work and trust-building.
Ruckus takes a collaborative and inclusive approach to leadership and planning among our stakeholders, and the Program Coordinator is expected to have the experience and desire to work in a shared leadership model, and be flexible and committed to the overall advancement of the organization. However, this position will be reporting to Leadership until experience and skills are demonstrated to the degree necessary to participate equally in Leadership decisions. Nevertheless, the Program Coordinator position is a leadership-track position, and should aim to help lead the organization forward.
Details of Primary Position Duties & Responsibilities:
Ruckus Society Program: Ongoing Projects & Relationships:
Program project management & coordination
Strategic program planning
Support current organizational partnerships & relationships as well as cultivate new ones
Program narrative writing
Resource development: Project management of ongoing curriculum writing, manual revisions etc.
Training & Action Support:
Oversee Ruckus’s Training and Action Support Program, responding to requests for training and action skills, matching trainers and activists to needs, documenting efforts and impact, conducting all follow-up, and providing the highest quality support to the Ruckus Network and our allies.
Training Network Coordination:
Support the growth and development of the Training/ Community Network overall; help track and manage new membership processes; manage communication with Network members including program and organizational updates and coordinating organizational input.
Program Documentation & Communications:
Work with the Development Director to plan and implement communications strategies; play a primary role in documenting programmatic work through writing/producing training and action reports, social media, website and email blasts for quick transmission to the outside world; capture photos and video; keep running list of all Ruckus activities and impact; and help provide written content for fundraising materials.
Staff-wide Responsibilities:
Contribute to fundraising efforts by participating in strategic fundraising planning & implementation, contributing to fundraising narratives, pitching donors as necessary, meetings, events and activities.
Co-Plan Organizational Development, working with the team to help Ruckus continue to grow and evolve to meet the needs of our network and our mission including: regular staff meetings, organizational planning and evaluation retreats.
Participate in Ruckus Events, including action camps, trainings, fundraisers and social functions.
Demonstrate leadership and solidarity in network development, engaging and growing the diverse spectrum of stakeholders and communities that Ruckus seeks to serve and empower.
Organizational & Admin Responsibilities:
Meet Operations Responsibilities in a timely manner (expense reports, timesheets, budgets, 501(c)3-required paperwork, etc.)
Serve as a Spokesperson for Ruckus
Participate in Personal Professional Development opportunities
Qualifications:
Qualified applicants should have

- Strong interpersonal skills: collaborative, flexible with a sense of humor
- Ability to adapt to shifting priorities as they arise
- Strong competency with administrative tasks
- A deep understanding of institutional and individual formations of oppression

Compensation:
Salary: $38,000 to $44,000 based on experience
