Training for Young Women’s Empowerment Project

The Ruckus Society just finished two and half days of training in snowy, beautiful Chicago with the Young Women’s Empowerment Project. The project is working on a long-term culture transformation campaign around how girls in the sex trade and homeless (or home free) youth are treated in the city of Chicago.

Ruckus trained them in direct action strategy, story/messaging, and supported them as they came up with some kick-ass direct action messages and ideas. We were blown away by the powerful research that the youth have done over the past few years in developing this campaign – they could train other folks in how to truly know the history of an issue and a region, the allies, the politicians, the targets, the vision and the goals.

Hip-hop artist Invincible joined us to create action media pieces with the girls, including new chants to use during their actions. We ended the day shouting and recording their motto: "I Am Priceless!"
